In-between Worlds: Basgiath and Ojai

In the midst of listening my way through Jiddu Krishnamurti’s Ojai lectures, I’ve also been swept into another ‘storm’ entirely. I closed Iron Flame only to open Onyx Storm in the very next breath.

Rebecca Yarros’ Empyrean Series (beginning with Fourth Wing—loved that one too!) has me hooked—dragons, battles, love, betrayal—the whole ride. But it’s more than just fantasy; Violet Sorrengail and Xaden Riorson have become part of my Personal Board of Directors*. Violet’s brilliance and empathy belie her physical fragility, but those very contradictions make her unbreakable. Xaden’s stoic exterior and superior powers mask a storm of loyalty and sacrifice.

It feels fitting, as I move between Ojai’s reflections and Basgiath’s battles of loyalty and survival. Different landscapes, same pursuit: what does it take to live with courage, no matter the cost?
